We keep what can be kept: a tree, a frame, a wall. The greenest building is often the one already there.

Lime, brick, timber and concrete that stain, soften and patinate instead of failing.

Casa Alvito
A single-storey house of lime and charred timber, set low against the Alentejo heat.
Wharf Road Library
A neighbourhood library on the Regent’s Canal, in pale brick and blackened oak.
Kiln House
A house on the marsh edge, shaped like the kilns and barns around it.

An old warehouse in east Lisbon, turned into 24 studios for makers.
